My school, Rockwood Summit High school, has been exceptional in preparing me for college. I have had the opportunity to take AP classes, and also participate in several extra curriculum activities that have shaped me into a very well rounded student. I have also participated in volleyball and basketball for 4 years at Summit, which has kept me well grounded. The coaching staff, teachers and administrators are all very caring people, with the same goal in mind. That goal is SUCCESS of their students! The one thing I loved is how my principle has followed the class of 2017 through the entire 4 years, and has gotten to know each of us on a personal level. I am going to miss my high school.
Review Rockwood R-VI School District
The Rockwood School District is a great place to interact with a diverse group of people. Many of the students, teachers, and staff get along with each other and I have never seen much bullying or issues going on. Occasionally there is some issues with students, and the counselors are very quick about helping the students. One of my favorite things about the Rockwood School District is the compassionate teachers, counselors, staff, etc. I have noticed that most of them are passionate about their job and have great enthusiasm for teaching and preparing students for their future. One of the things that I do not agree with at our school is how we are able to retake tests/quizzes in some classes. The reason for this is because it does not prepare us for college when we do not have a second chance to receive a better score. Overall, my High School and the School District as well has great leadership and spirit! I am glad to be apart of it.
Teachers will stay after or direct students to tutoring if extra assistance is needed. The facilities are constantly upgrading security features & holding drills to ensure safety. The facilities crew does a great job of addressing maintenance issues. Grass fields are well manicured and turf fields have installed. All sports have trainer at each practice / game to ensure the student-athletes are taken care of in the event of injury. State test scores are of high importance for the district. Teachers are often pressured into "teaching for the test". There is an opportunity for teachers to focus on the college entry tests such as ACT and SAT. Area of opportunity is administration. A study of their responsibilities and time management could result in creating a lean work environment. Often a student must contact 3 administration individuals to get 1 item processed. A review of the administration might result in time savings processes for students, parents, teachers, & staff.
