The staff at RCPS really care about the students and their success. The band program is well developed as well as many of the other extracurricular programs at the school. I participated in band for 5 years, varsity soccer for 3, jv soccer for 1, and forensics for 1. All of these extracurriculars were the best parts of my high school experience. Aside from that, the facility is slightly outdated. Not all the bathrooms have locks and they are kind of gross. Also, there was a huge problem with the roof causing it to need to be redone, however this was during school and pieces of roof would just fall down in the middle of class. It gave a lot of people coughs/colds. The worst part of the school is its inability to deal with delinquent children and the limited access to AP/DE courses. They discourage high achievement in the school system by having limited options for high level courses and only sending 3 students to the nearby governors school.
Radford City Public Schools was the third place where I attended a high school and I have to say it was the most welcoming by far. The student environment cultivated kindness and positive relationships that helped me immensely to be less nervous and feel more comfortable.
Great school! I have enjoyed my 4 years at this school. They teachers are great and it has a great small town feel.
