Most of the teachers at Washington Park high school treat you as a human rather than just a student. Once you get to know your teachers, it feels as if they are family. Many of the teachers will joke around with students. They are all understanding and will help you with school and home related problems. I have also became friends with people I wouldn’t even bat an eye at in middle school. Being in that fun environment helps you see different sides people. My freshman English teacher was always fun to joke around with. I am now a senior, and I still pop in his classroom every once in a while and we joke around. Pathway classes are also really fun because you’re with the same teacher for three years and they get to know you really well. Being with the same teacher for that long makes you feel comfortable to talk with them about things that you wouldn’t tell just a normal teacher.
I have been within the Racine Unified School District since I started going to school. The district has gone a little downhill over the years but does host the International Baccalaureate program and the program makes paying for college easier as if you pass your IB test you are likely to get many college credits. My high school has gone a little downhill as we have had more violence in the area. I hope that the district gets better as I enjoyed it more when I was younger. The teachers are hit or miss, some teachers I loved and you could see how passionate they were about teaching but other teachers seem to have chosed to teach because that was all they could do.
The teachers at Racine Unified School district were all mostly really good and truly cared about providing the best education they could to their students. It was just that the curriculum that the teachers presented, and the way they did so, was more confusing in the long run. Especially when it came to higher grades, such as in high school. I believe that I did not receive the best education or learning experience in my high school years due to the lack of coordination and explanation of the material we students were supposed to master.
