I personally feel that this district is more politically driven than educationally motivated. School and Boards that govern schools should always put the education of the children first. Public Schools of Robeson County has a long ways to go to fulfill this statement. As a student of the district, I have observed lots of issues that should be addressed. More academic classes, school safety, and school diversity and inclusion. Parental involvement is important, but surveys and other means of addressing student needs should be open other than attending meetings, that parents cannot always meet those time slots. Complaining is viewed as problematic rather than idealistic. There really needs to be panels to address student needs and involvement as the community in the district as a whole, not just whose who within the district. All opinions and questions should be validated with an answer to proposed solution.
I am currently a senior at Robeson Early College High School. My experience has been pleasant but I wish I had more extracurricular activities. Because it is not a traditional high school, we do not have sports or many other school activities. We also do not have things like school plays which I would have loved to participate in. However, my overall experience has been good. Most teachers are amazing and are ready and willing to provide help when needed. The overall environment is also pretty great. The only thing that I hope changes for future generations to come is for the school to have events and extracurricular activities. As a student I believe that this is important because after all, school is a learning place but it can also be enjoyable and fun.
Based on my experience in one of their middle schools and at the Early College High School, I liked it. I liked how attentive and helpful the teachers were and how nice the staff were. As long as you were doing fine academically and behaviorally, you got a good amount of independence and perks. Plus, I love the amount of clubs you were able to join. There was Beta Club, Battle of the Books, People's Court, and other clubs you could participate in. The only thing I had issues with were some of the teacher's attitudes and how rowdy my classmates would get.
