Portland public schools provided me with an experience like no other. Through elementary school, I attended a private school located in the same city. The private school granted me a good basis, but overall, was lacking the teachers and the students the public schools had. My teachers in the Portland school system provided me with an education that fully prepared me for college, and the diversity in the students gave me a better understanding and appreciation of the different types of students that there are. That was critical, and something that the private school lacked. Because of being around different classes and races, it made me appreciate my background, and made me more understanding of others, which is something that I'm learning, most kids lack once they get to college.

I have had a great experience with some subjects during the year, but some teachers could use help with teaching. Also there is a lot of different clubs that sometimes it’s hard to choose which one to be in. As well as for different clubs there are some different class to take every year, but sometimes the teachers for the classes don’t understand the concept of taking care of paperwork.
I love how there are so many choices in Portland Maine. There are I think over six elementary schools, three middle schools and three high schools to choose from. I love the freedom of getting to choose where you want to go. I know that when my mom was growing up, she did not have options to choose from like me. Up until high school, I went to expeditionary learning schools. I loved expeditionary learning. It was much more interesting to go out and learn about subject from professionals rather than copying out of a text book. Overall, the Portland Public Schools are great. The teachers are fabulous and the subjects are interesting and can be applied to the real world.
