Rating 4.1 out of 5 29 reviews
After switching from a private school to Pittsford Central Schools, the most notable changes were the social and academic opportunities. Academics are my priority, and I found that teachers and classmates are of the same opinion. Varied options for core classes help students thrive and remain engaged. Pittsford's academics are their strongest value, in my opinion. For extracurriculars, there are countless choices for students. I found my place in music groups and Mock Trial, adding variety to my school day. The sports teams are notoriously competitive and successful. Being a Pittsford athlete requires incredible drive and determination, which is not always positive. My complaint with Pittsford is how administration handles difficult subjects, including racist incidents in the district. The typical response is reminding students that we are a connected community without taking any noticeable action. I commend the addition of a diversity committee, but I have not seen them enact change.
Very good district academically, mostly great teachers who are very willing to support and advocate for their students. The administration does not seem to really care about its students, but otherwise, it is pretty damn good. Colleges are very interested in pittsford students.
Almost all of the teachers I had over the four years were incredible. Extremely knowledgeable in the class content, always encouraging us to come in for extra help, & overall caring deeply about our wellbeing personally & academically. There were plenty of AP & honors opportunities to prepare us extremely well for college. The two major negative experiences I can think of is the competitiveness. They don’t do class ranking so by no means are they encouraging it, but there’s a lot of bragging about who takes the most AP courses or who is the most ahead in math or science. Also, diversity is very poor. They do their best to include all students & be an accepting community, but there have been difficulties & racist remarks made toward almost all students of color I know. The Diversity Club yearbook photo from 2019 was literally (not figuratively) 5 white kids
