My experience at Pinckney has been quite interesting. I have had my fair share of being bullied and just as many other kids, I've had difficult experiences. Pinckney offers a place for everyone though. For some kids it's sports and for others it's academics. For me, Act2 (our theater company) is my place. Our academics at Pinckney are decent. We have a wide range of great teachers who really care about the students. Mrs. Dailey and Mr. Roy, for example, take time to check in on their students and make sure they're doing okay which offers a safe space and an opportunity to express your feelings. The one thing I wish we had more of at Pinckney is diversity. Our school is mainly caucasian with a few foreign exchange students. I feel like with more diversity we could offer more learning opportunities and a more inclusive environment.
Pinckney Community Schools gives me mixed emotions. Elementary and Middle school was great, I loved the teachers and activities we did. High school is good, the teachers connect with us a lot better. We get our work done and then we have some time to ourselves. However, since the pandemic, we now have block schedules which are terrible. We get no breaks and have 90 minute classes. Now I know that this isn't the worst thing, but it sucks when we get all our class work done in the first thirty minutes. Two weeks ago our lunch staff quit, so we had "cold lunches" for the rest of the week. Which happened to consist of a bagel or Uncrustable sandwich and some carrots. It was so abrupt that parents and students didn't have the time to prepare any lunches from home. No more nachos, Bosco sticks, or chicken nuggets. Overall, Pinckney Schools is great for achedemics and sports, just not so much for other necessities.
I would like to see the diversity of Pinckney Community High School change. It’s a very rate occurrence to see a person of color, this highly influenced the behavior of the students there. Many students weren’t educated on the cultural differences and I often found myself feeling like an outsider. Additionally, I would also like to have more consistency. The guidance counselors quit, lots of teachers were fired, and we got a new principal. There was very little familiarity to hold onto and at times it made coming into a new year very difficult.
