I have been in the Pickerington local school district for 10 years. They have great teachers and staff! They have many things that are awesome like their extracurricular clubs and sports! Some things that should be changed are the school board. We need people who have worked in schools and who know what needs to be fixed. Not a phony who doesn't know anything about the school system.
While attending pickerington high school north for two years, I can say that it was great. The academics, the size of the school, the cafeteria food, it was great. It was definitely a culture shock, because to come from a predominately black school then transfer to a predominately white school can definitely change your view on things. I would say that the school is definitely lacking diversity, but I never had a discrimination or racist experience personally while I attended. Now, have students made racially insensitive remarks and posts on social media about the African American minority? Yes, but no school is perfect and that incident had happened before I started going to school there.
Personally, I feel as if Pickerington local school district has done me well throughout my years of education. Although Pickerington is great academically, I feel that there can still be improvement overall. Not only are academics the majority of a school districts importance, the little things such as diversity, sports and college readiness, play a large rule in overall experience of a school district. As we age as district throughout generations, we learn techniques, and technologies along with tools that create a safer and better overall environment to learn, grow and belong.
