Person County Schools Reviews
Fund cuts are a big issue regarding academics and jobs. Many students can no longer take certain AP classes, for example, AP Earth and Environmental Science. However, most teachers have the same mindset of seeing their students through the semester and having them pass. A positive mindset and school pride set them apart. The teachers are knowledgeable about the subjects they teach. But, a persistent problem I've noticed is many do not know how to present the information. Overall, the teachers are good, but the academics are beginning to lack.
In the past couple years, PCS has grown a lot in terms of adding programs and classes that will better prepare our future students, including the new Spanish curriculum at Helena Elementary School, the new STEM class at Person High, and the relatively new annual summer STEM camp at Piedmont Community College in association with PHS.
Person County Schools has some of the most diverse and accepting schools. The staff, teachers and adminstrations goes above their job descriptions to ensure all students are equal and feel like they are important because they are. The guidance office (student services center) has many counselors and advisors and makes sure they are taking the right classes, helps them with their transfer classes between Person and Piedmont community college. Many different clubs and organizations are available. One example is at Person High that has SADD (Students against destructive decisions) they focus on not drinking and driving, work with local law enforcement on click it or ticket it, anti-bullying month, etc. Person goes above public school expectations for their students and faculty/staff to make sure they get the most out of their education.
