Rating 3.55 out of 5 56 reviews
I graduated from Penn Hills and in comparison to other schools in the state, Penn Hills students are far behind on academics. The district is in debt and takes it out on the students and staff, alike. The middle school does not have AC and students' biggest issues are how to navigate the hallways while avoiding brawls or having to teach themselves their lessons because some teachers are not qualified to teach or simply do not care. The only redeeming quality of the school is the football team is decently good, but they also get all the funding compared to the arts or other athletics.
Penn Hills provided an immersive experience and various networking opportunities, assuming you turned them into networking experiences. When paired with NMSI, Penn Hills rivaled top-performing schools across the Greater Pittsburgh Area and has an educational quality equivalent or comparable to Taylor Alderdice Highschool. The Gifted Program and STEM courses are phenomenal, with AP courses being stressed to students. I am currently a Duquesne University, and I can honestly say that Penn Hills Highschool AP is significantly more difficult than this established 4-year university. You may have concerns over the district's taxes, money issues, and publicity, but if your child is devoted to learning; none of this will matter.
Very under-rated district. Many students truly excell in their studies, even if they are typically overlooked to focus on students with a poor academic record. Excellent variety of sports teams, music ensembles, clubs, and extracurriculars.
