Friendly and supportive environment with updated elementary and high schools. Wide variety of clubs, activities and sports with great school spirit. Honors, AP and college credit classes. Works with online learning schools and open to independent study proposals. On the downside, senior administration has changed frequently and the math department is lacking solid teachers.
Teachers were very invested in their students' success. Academics offered were often minimally challenging. AP classes were often cancelled due to lack of enrollment or lack of teaching staff. Athletics were average. Emphasis was placed on 4-year colleges and away from community colleges/trade or voc programs, etc.
My 3 children all graduated from Pelham High, and 2 went through from first grade. My daughter graduated and went on to college, earning a Bachelors and going for her Masters. My two boys, blue collar, but a combination of school and home, I'm sure groomed them into the two kind and hard working individuals they are today. Coach Babaian was a father figure to my youngest, who went on to join the Marines for 4 years. I cannot say enough about the man. As a single mom the support I received from the town, the school (and it's coach) made me grow to love Pelham's small town generosity and people. I love the town...have been here since 1987. My grandchildren are now attending school, and I wish them the best. Times have changed and drugs and bad people will be where ever you go, but in this community I feel safe and sound.
