During my high school career, I was able to experience quite a few different districts; one of those being OJR. My family moved here initially from the Boyertown area in hopes of having a better education. We were under the impression that because of the much higher ratings, OJR would be a better school, not only for me but my siblings as well. We now believe that we were wrong. Education-wise, most of the teachers I or my siblings have had (honors & AP-level) were okay. I believe that I have learned sufficiently over the past two years, even in the high competition environment. But, compared to Boyertown, I honestly feel as though I haven't taken away nearly as much. Additionally, besides education, the general environment of OJR isn't all that friendly or spirited. Being a stricter school seems to have made it so there is less encouraged/allotted expression or creativity. Now, although I think OJR is overrated, that is not to say that it was bad, I just feel they could do better.
Owen J Roberts ranks as one of the best public schools in the area and it's easy to see why! the teachers are great and well versed in their subjects, the school is in an amazing location and they offer many extracurricular. one of the best things for me that the school offers is Senior work privilege, which allows me to leave early during the school day to go to work. This helps me to better my own future, truly showing just how much the school district cares for me and other students.
Owen J. Roberts School District is an overall, well-rounded public school system. Their primary field of excellence, I would say would have to be either STEM or sports. The high school especially excels in both of those areas. The STEM programs start small in the elementary level and exceeds up to high school. OJR has a variety of science courses and activities(National Science Honors Society, related clubs, AP, IB, etc). The technological department is outstanding, with requiring courses about the ever-evolving technology early on. They have a 1-1 technology program in the high school. As a previous engineering student, the extent of the engineering programs are endless and met with an appropriately challenging course work. Lastly, the math department excels with many outstanding teachers throughout the district. As aforementioned, the district is impressive when it comes to their sports teams. Many of the teams have won PACs and other awards. Overall, a good public school system.
