Oswego Community Unit School District No. 308 Reviews
Overall, my personal experience with the Oswego Community Unit School District was good. Coming from a lower income family and being homeless since my sophomore year, I struggled registering for school, sports, activities, and even colleges. The school district truly did everything they could to help me and I am so grateful! The staff is always willing to help. However, the downside of the school district would be inconsistency. During my time at Oswego East, I had three principals and there were always staff members coming and going. Overall, the district is extremely helpful.
Has a great program for advanced students and plenty of clubs and activities to get involved. A great sense of community in the face of tragedy. Consistently good athletics INSIDE conference (we get our butts kicked by Naperville schools). Heavily accredited FIRST Robotics program (time commitment) and STEP Team. Has great foundations for learning in STEM, Pre-Med, Art, Drama and Education (personally experienced the STEM track but have witnessed others be successful in these disciplines at the AP level). Offers online classes that can boost class ranks and get grad requirements out of the way. Good weight room and lifting program called EXCEL. Also can get exempt for gym if you go are in a varsity sport and a pre-school gym class is offered (early bird) if you want a higher course load. Regular classes are MUCH slower than advanced classes. School system is quite broke but continues to expand and give budget to programs that fail, spent too much money on TVS.
Oswego East provides many opportunities for its students to excel both inside and outside of the classroom. The teachers are dedicated to providing a well-rounded education for their students and prepare them to succeed in the real world. Programs like Medical Topics that provide clinical exposure in a hospital setting are rarely seen in any school around the area. I have experienced some of my best memories within this school district. Teachers, school counselors, and administration truly care about each and every student in their school.
