We have been pleased with our son's experience at Onteora so far. There are only about 100 kids in each grade so it's the perfect size, not too big or small. Class sizes are very small so my son has always had plenty of personal attention. The majority of his teachers have been excellent and I was pleasantly surprised how well they got to know my son and understood his learning style and personality. There is an outstanding music program at Onteora and we love that his lessons are part of the school day. My son has a great friend group and gets along well with most of the kids, but there are definitely some there that aren't very nice. The buildings in this district could all use an upgrade, they are low brick buildings built 50's. The district has a huge budget so they should upgrade the buildings! Woodstock is very safe and walkable so my son likes to go there after school and hang out with his friends. It's been a wonderful place for him to grow up.
Onteora Central School District is a school that really prepared me for my future endeavors. The staff and faculty worked extremely hard and put in extra time to make sure that my peers and I would be ready for the real world. The courses at Onteora we’re challenging yet useful. I felt extremely safe in this environment and I had no issue with my fellow peers. If there was one thing I would change, it would be the diversity. Onteora’s districts are made up of a majority of caucasian individuals. There was lack of diversity, culture, and differences. I wish I had the opportunity to learn about others and their backgrounds, and have the opportunity to learn from others as well.
Onteora is a very well rounded, top of the line education school and in more recent years the athletic program had done better than ever. During COVID 19 Onteora did very well in what to do and how to keep up with work during quarantine.
