Rating 4.42 out of 5 26 reviews
I have been going to Okemos school all my life and I have always loved it here. This district is so accepting of everyone, no matter where you are from or your background. I am a part of the LGBTQ and I have always felt safe and respected here. They give everyone equal opportunities and look at everyone the same. They also take claims of bullying and harassment very seriously. I have enjoyed all my time at Okemos Public Schools and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!
I loved the academic challenges that Okemos provided. I, along with many other students, and teachers have noticed a pressure and stress that comes out of Okemos that doesn't happen at other schools. The pressure to be smart and strive academically and athletically. You have to be one or the other, if not both. Okemos only provides an easily accessible honors program for math. For other subjects like science and lit comp, I was advised out of seeking an honors route. This year, I've been asked many times by my teachers why I didn't take that same route I was advised against. Apart from all of this, Okemos is a great school. I've found great friends. It's so diverse, there's something for everyone.
The teachers and staff of Okemos Public Schools are top notch. They work tirelessly to provide the best possible education, and they nurture students' development in all aspects. We are grateful that Okemos Public Schools provides a public Montessori program preK-8th grade. The instructional methods and materials in the Montessori program are outstanding and set students up for success when entering a traditional educational setting in high school.
