The district struggles with organization, and faculty. Often times, teachers or administrators migrate within or outside the district, causing instability.
Regardless of the quality of each school, the impact from constantly having new personnel hinders the quality of communication within the district. While this hinders many OUSD schools, the district tries, and is often successful in accommodating for each student's needs. Oakland is a diverse, multi-cultural city, and the school district reflects that.

My experience with OUSD has been great. I've been with OUSD my whole life and I have to say it's overall a great place to grow and you meet ambitious people at a early age. I would like to highlight my time with a school in particular Mcclymonds High School. I believe that these two schools stand out like no other. Mcclymonds is truly like no other. When I started going there around my 10th grade year I honestly did not want go there. Thanks to Mcclymonds I gotten in schools like UC Davis, University of Washington, University of Arizona, and San Francisco State University. Schools I would have never had dreams of going to before hand. They have a support that is unmatched by any school.
I will admit that my experience may differ from others simply because my high school was small and did not have very much funding. I spent five years at the school, starting in middle school at 8th grade, and I witnessed it change throughout the years. The school has seen a decline in AP course qualified teachers, and it seems as though there is not enough people working for the school. However, I can see much potential. With the bright minded students and the teachers, who are driven to do the best they can with what they have, the school can make great improvements for itself and the district as a whole.
