I would like more funding for students to benefit from such as our academic learning. From my experience the OUSD hasn’t been very smart about their money. They give most of their earnings to charter schools and give us, the public schools, little supplies to rely on. Since they don’t have much money to supply us they give us teachers to teach a certain class but they don’t know what’s happening! Last year I was in a physics class with no teacher. We had a sub for about 3 months or so and we finally got a teacher who didn’t fully understand what physics was about. They didn’t teach us properly and was not organized whatsoever. My point is that the OUSD give us teachers that aren’t very beneficial. I want them to change how to better spend their money so that we, the students can succeed.
My time with OUSD district can be a mixed bag, while it does have its own faults within being able to prepare students for college, it does show to have a very well rounded diversity within students and being able to represent them in school. The teachers do a very good job at teaching does provide their students a good enough education. However, improvement can definitely be done; such as being able to provide more resources of education for students and being able to provide them more to make their high school experience better.
The Oakland Unified School District has given me opportunities that didn't even imagine it could give me and I am very grateful. Unfortunately after Covid- 19 hit and we had to get back to in Person learning and it got really unsafe at our school during the winter season. Their solution was to add more police officers which made me even more uncomfortable. There are also a lot of allegations against teachers for being inappropriate towards students. I personally think that they cannot handle school wide problems. Problems that affect everyone at specific school but they are getting better at holding themselves accountable for things they have caused. Fortunately overall I have had a good school life and have made a lot old acquaintances through them. I have always seen people who look like me and made a lot of black acquaintances. They also helped me in elementary school when I first got to America from Kenya. They helped me adjust and caught me up to then American School System.
