I never fully appreciated schools in the NISD district until I came back from another school (a charter school). In my experience back to NISD, I had better care, education, and overall experience. I managed to go from C's and D's back to my usual average, A & B average when I came back to this district. I now have qualified teachers and more opportunities within schools in the NISD district. And for that I am forever grateful!
Although I didn’t see this till my senior year, my favorite thing about Northwest ISD is that their entire system is built from the ground up on making sure students are able to find their way into adult life and making sure it’s the right fit for them. Northwest has tons of tools made just to help students find what they want to do. Aside from that the school culture is amazing, it’s isn’t like anything I’ve seen before. Everyone is always in ready to help one another. I witnessed this during the tragic winter storms that left many homes unrecognizable here in Texas. Many families in this district gathered around to help one those in need lift back up. Northwest is also a proud home of many scholars , their high percentage of high school graduate and after highschool graduate backs up their education and administrator boards. It makes you feel safe that your in good hands. Their overall resources available to students make graduating almost impossible to miss.
I have been in NISD since 1st grade and although I have loved my time in this district, I think there are definitely areas where it can improve. Northwest ISD is an incredibly rigorous and academically empowered district. However, I think the district could do a better job of being inclusive. The campuses are divided into wealthier vs poorer sections and there are multiple campuses that are almost entirely made up of white students, with others that are almost entirely made up of minorities. There are also many assumptions about what students are expected to own (things such as their own car/transportation, electronics, constant flow of money for school events, etc), even though many students just can't meet those expectations. I think it would be really nice to see such a great district pay more attention to the needs of all of their students, rather than just a few.
