Well after moving from California to Bothell, WA in my 9th grade of high school, it was definitely hard for me. I felt out of place with my peers and it was extremely hard to make friends in this environment. I was able to go straight into an alternative high school after junior high and it was the best decision i've made in my life up to this day. I'm lucky to have teachers that really pay attention to me and my work. They are genuinely interested in helping me to graduate and succeed. After 3 years at my alternative high school and beginning my senior year, I moved into a program at my school called Contract. Talk about a life-saver. This program allows me to work on work at home and talk with a counselor once a work to receive credit. I can't thank Northshore enough for involving children in different facets of education that work for them. Thank you, Northshore!
I have spent my whole academic career in Northshore and am very pleased with it so far. I have heard from certain sources, such as teachers that have worked in other surrounding districts, that those others around Northshore are not as good, and that Northshore is superior in many respects. From my experience, north shore especially excels in general academics, college-readiness programs, teachers and parent involvement. In terms of teachers, I certainly agree. They all have seemed very highly competent qualified. After having occasionally visited other districts the contrast with Northshore is clear --the latter has better quality in most respects than the average (perhaps due to higher funding)... except for diversity. The student body seems to be largely white, and the areas around the schools are somewhat well-off and "protected".
