Demarest ‘21 alum. This school prepares you for any school you want to intend including the Ivy League, military academies, the best public schools, and others. Most common schools my classmates went to were Rutgers, NYU, and Northeastern (where I am now.) Students usually attend Princeton, Cornell, and Penn every year. The rest of the Ivy League has been populated well, too. A 98th percentile SAT or ACT does not set you apart here. Students must beware the stress and imbalance possible here. Arts and sports are vibrant and well attended. The theatre and music program are excellent.
The thing I liked the most about Northern Valley is that the teachers are well educated and work hard for their students. It has a diversity of students and a great sports program. The counselors and principles are very helpful as well. The vibe and energy is always positive. Also, Northern Valley takes bullying very seriously. It has been named one of the best Public Schools in Bergen County. The people attending are nice and respectful. The Special education program is also very good compared to other schools. We win the sportsmanship award every year in sports. We run food drives and many other events to help the community. The schools has hundreds of clubs to join.
This school is very good at preparing your child for college. The schools provides classes that are perfect for which ever level your child will be best in. They also provide a good amount of classes such as guitar class, woodshop, computer science, and art history. These classes are more specific and will help your child find the classes that they will enjoy the most because they are unlike traditional lecture classes. The main classes such as english, math, etc are really good too. No matter which level you are in, the teacher will always be there to help and teach. They do make sure students do their work, but will not babysit them. There is a limit on how much they will push the kids which is good because students need to learn to be responsible. The student life in nvd is like any other highschool. there will be cliques and fake people but at the end everyone is nice to each other. The diversity is very nice too. The sports did get worse when the previous grades left though.
