North Colonie is a very fun school that allows me to express my creativity and passions. They have many elective courses that are not available at other schools. However, their pipeline for academic courses is very strict, and the school is overall very crowded. Some teachers can be difficult with their grading system also. I take all honors/AP courses, and with some tests, almost the entire class gets a bad grade.
I do not feel safe in the school at all times. There have been too many reports of school fights, violence against the school via social media, and people tend to be more rude and pushy in the hallways. Overall, my experience in North Colonie is pretty good.

I have been a part of the North Colonie CSD since 4th grade when I moved schools yet another time- and I have to say it has been very welcoming. My family and I had moved to America a few years before that and so I ended up going to two different schools and three different living situations before we got to North Colonie CSD. As someone who had yet to settle down in a single school, North Colonie was the first place I got that. At first, I attended Forts Ferry elementary school, the teachers were amazing and I still have a lasting impression of how much I enjoyed finally being in a steady spot where I knew I wouldn't have to move anywhere. After 6th grade, I moved on to SJHS, a place with many new opportunities and an amazing community of peers and teachers. I entered the Shaker HS world in the midst of a pandemic and such unprecedented times- Shaker has done a wonderful job at keeping the students engaged and making sure learning runs smoothly, even if we're not all there together.
Overall a great experience. You get as much out as you put in given the resources that the school has. Needs to work on diversity and inclusivity, however, is making an effort that they will keep building on. Have had great relationships with some teachers and others were neutral. There are definitely passionate and well-informed teachers especially those who teach AP courses in the history.
