Newport-Mesa Unified School District is a very "work together" environment which is a very helpful tool for all the kids, parents, and admistrators. I really like how the district has many opportunities for us, such as; learning orchestral instruments, and getting to be part of an orchestra group, after school programs for kids, offering ROP classes, etc. Another thing that this district does a good job on is diversity. The community comes together as a whole and works together to enrich the cultural diversity. On the other hand, the district has some things to work on. These include; nicer administration, the food that the cafeterias offer to kids is not healthy and many kids won't even eat it because sometimes it is not appetizing. Some teachers need anger management and others need to learn how to control a crazy classroom. Other than that I think this district has many good things that have opened doors in my life.
Newport-Mesa Unified School District is a place that allows you to succeed in ways you never thought you could. The staff is incredible, the students are welcoming for most part, and the the education is one of a kind! Could not have been more thankful for have grown into the person I am at NMUSD!
As a former employee of the Newport Mesa School District I can tell you firsthand that this school district strongly urged their students to pursue extracurricular activities such as drama club, sports and art. The children were very well-mannered and a joy to work with. The only change that I would like to see is in extreme weather conditions that they would have specific shelter to stay in instead of getting shuffled to various buildings/classrooms.
