Did not have a good school year. Loved all the teachers but the environment was bad. Rumors everywhere; people were getting made fun of left and right.
I would like more investment on the teacher's behalf, as most of the teachers don't seem to care about the students and are rather apathetic.
I have lived in New Athens my entire life. I went to school here K-12 and now my 3 children do (1 HS, 1 JH, 1 PreK). It is a small school, so there are limitations on certain things, like the amount of advanced classes in HS. The upside is smaller class sizes and the opportunity for more 1:1 attention when needed. The teachers are very invested in giving students the best opportunities. Many spend extra time coaching, PTO, STEM nights, etc. The administration tries their best to keep up with ever changing problems with things like juuling and cyber bullying. Let's just remember that EDUCATION STARTS AT HOME, and it is OUR responsibility as parents to take control of what our kids are doing and to not place blame on the teachers/admin when our kids are having problems. From what I have seen, if you talk to them about the problem they will do everything they can to help.
Sports programs need some work. Need to pay coaches more so we can hire people that know what they are doing.
Currently a senior at New Athens High School and I am both happy and sad to be leaving the place. I have met some really awesome faculty members here, but I also feel like other faculty members have really dropped the bar. I have taken many course, but I wish they would offer more advanced courses for students who want to get a head start. A lot of prejudice in the school too, but only with certain faculty members/students. Non-administrative and teacher faculty (i.e. janitors, bus drivers, cafeteria workers) are all really nice people and deserve more credit than they receive by the majority of the students. Overall, a pretty good school.
