The academics are the school are awful. Test scores around 40% for DC, forget nationwide. Worksheets sent home are rife with grammatical errors. The location of the school is awful. Our student experienced several active shooter lock-downs based on shootings in the immediate vicinity of the school -- many ruled homicides and one right next to the school. This situation is only made worse by the use of public parks for playgrounds - the parks are full of drug paraphernalia and our child was assaulted (no injury) by a transient person while walking back to school from recess. I have twice seen a woman screaming profanities enter the school grounds. There just isn't much to recommend this place. The little library and the flowers for the bees stuff is just pretty-on-the-outside stuff -- inside this place is rotten to the core.
On paper this school looks great. Don't be fooled. Physical assaults, foul language, and bullying are PERVASIVE at this school and the administration is not equipped to deal with it appropriately--nor do they seem interested in doing so. Some teachers are great, while others are not even remotely qualified to be teaching. It was a downright traumatic experience for our daughter.
