Mount Vernon Schools has been a great school system for me. They have always been helpful and aware if students are behind in any educational needs. They provide a good learning environment and nicely groomed schools. I have always had excellent teachers who were very knowledgeable and helpful. At the high school level they have been working on more communications with other countries so that we can have foreign exchange students and that our students can travel to other countries. We even have started a Mandarin Chinese program that has had great success!

There are the usual athletic programs. Girls volleyball has a great program and they have done very well. I feel like they offer a very well-rounded education at Mt. Vernon.

Mount Vernon is a pretty small school, which makes it easier to connect personally with teachers and improves education rates. Some of the best teachers I've ever had are from this school district! There are so many opportunities to learn, earn college credit, and be involved in both the community and school activities. The students themselves are generally well-behaved and pleasant to be around. However, there are a few changes I'd make if I had the power to do so. The communication methods are extremely poor; the student population would agree with me that we hardly ever know when and where events or student functions are happening! We could also definitely use more counselors as well. There aren't nearly enough to get to know each student personally and help with any problems, and the ones that are here are more focused on administrative business instead of individual students. Other than these few issues, Mount Vernon is a lovely school district!
During my experience, while attending Mt. Vernon High School was great. I have been attending this school since my 8th-grade year, and I honestly have no complaints. The teachers are very supportive, with great hospitality skills. This school is predominantly white but as an African American student, I felt no segregation whatsoever. I enjoyed my time here at this school and would recommend it to all students attending high school.
