I would have to say the Montebello district really tries focusing on the students the most and tries giving the most support they can whenever they get the chance. They make fun enhancing events throughout the schools to get the students be more involved in school related things. The only thing that I didn’t like about the district is that when they installed solar panels at the Bell Gardens High School, it wasn’t even mainly to power the school its self. The solar panels were used for something else and not only that but they were built on top of a grass area where it now doesn’t allow any type of sunlight to touch it so it is just all dirt. I feel like they didn’t really think that through when they first built it.
The MUSD was average over all. We did not have a lot of college help or even extra curricular activities unless you joined a specific program such as AVID. When it came to foreign languages it was just French and Spanish and just in High school because it’s a graduation requirement. I would have liked more help starting from middle school because a lot of people including myself did not know what they wanted to major in. The schools are primarily Hispanic and many of our parents barely finished 5th grade if not did not finish any schooling. Knowing your options is very important especially helping with a career strategy, even financial aid or applying to a school.
Montebello high school has a lot of potential that hasn’t been discovered. At MHS discovering a good teacher with good skills is rare, but when found, it’s a very wonderful and ecstatic thing. However, with the teachers with poor teaching skills, the environment in which they teach in is very difficult and you get nothing of it. The students are mostly troublesome, and finding a student that cares very deeply about education is rare. The rules are the same as other schools and other districts. Like this rules, of course there are some I’d like to change. For example, the dress code. The dress code for girls, always tends to follow the patriarchal order of things. The rule of no tank tops less with a stray of less than two inches, is just ridiculous. Another thing I’d like to change is where the money gets spent. In MHS it’s obvious which sport if preferred, football, however, it’s only fair for it to be evenly distributed between all sports.
