Melissa ISD is an amazing place to have your children. They are constantly improving facilities and programs, and with a new middle school and new high school additions, as well as the elementary schools being built, the district will remain amazing for some time. The academics are excellent, and the only thing the district could improve on is some of the administration decisions on things like Mega Lunch at the High School and the academic calendar, which frequently take heat from many parents in the district. Other than that, Melissa is a premier place to be!
I am new to Melissa High School, as a junior, and I really like it here. The school is much bigger than my past school, which has caused lots of construction during the work day. This can make it hard to focus at times. It is also hard to make it to class before the bell rings because the portals are so far away from the “academic tower” or the other classes that are still in the main building. I would say that safety is a bit of a concern as well, because kids are outside so often with the campus being open to the neighborhoods around. The classrooms are all mostly glass, so anyone in the hall can see in. There are also lots of classrooms in the hallway, in the open, because they have ran out of room. The teachers and staff members seem to be great people though! I am excited to hopefully have a new, safe campus for my senior year!
I had an amazing experience at my high school. I was involved in several extracurriculars such as band, theatre, NHS, Student Council, and Interact Club. All of the different groups were run very smoothly by great teachers. One of which really impacted sophomore through senior year and that was theatre. I found such great friends and built lifelong skills. If I had never gone to Melissa High School, I simply would not have the values and individuality I hold today.
