Throughout my schooling in this district I have encountered many instances of neglect and poor morality from the School Board. In both the middle and high school I attended in this district, a pattern arose of cheap policies and distribution of funds, illustrated particularly through the poor quality of atmosphere control, immature budget cuts, and plumbing that left portions of the school sweltering heat with no funds for student experience and hazardous sewage seeping up through the floor. Additionally, the treatment of teachers in this district is abhorrent. I fondly remember one teacher, who was pushed to resign due to neglectful treatment. This teacher skillfully taught six unique classes, three of which were at the AP level or above. However, she was far underpaid and her programs were far underfunded. This situation was paralleled across the school, leading to a mass exodus of teacher resignations that left many important classes to be instructed by unqualified substitutes.
One of my favorite things about MHS is how many electives and AP classes we have. By having a multitude of classes to pick from, it allows students to explore different hobbies and expose kids to future career paths. One of the worst parts about MHS is the core class teachers. They don't really care about their students or the subject they teach. Also, kids in athletics, especially football, basically get a free pass to pass their class so they can continue to play games. That's not fair and their grade is not rightfully earned. I would like to see teachers put more effort to teach their classes well and help students fully understand the subject. Overall, I love going to my school and wouldn't rather go anywhere else, but some of the staff could improve.
I have had a wonderful experience with the McKinney School district. It has many excellent teachers and staff members who are willing to help the students as soon as they are asked. It has amazing facilities that are always being improved, whether by remodeling old facilities or making them more modern. It is a district that prides itself on the diversity that it has, as is always looking for more ways to be inclusive.
