I liked the teachers but, overall, the school needs to do better addressing issues with race. For example, I stood up to my school (McKeesport High School) on wanting to create a Black Student Union (BSU) in my school. It was important to have a safe space where we could discuss and advocate for issues regarding race. Additionally, we also wanted to address and discuss the racial injustice going on with black kids at my school. My school disagreed with the idea of a BSU, we had to take them to court. The case lasted for months. Eventually we won and finally got the BSU at our school. This situation made my character stronger and showed the power of using my voice.
I have attended the Mckeesport area school district and have nothing but great things to say about the teacher. They truly care and want the best for all students. Providing students with basic needs such as materials for school is something many teachers in the district are good at.
During my time at the McKeesport Area School District I had a relatively normal experience. Many close bonds were formed during my time here. The only thing that could make my experience better would be the district having more money. They've had to close down many programs, including after school activities and the in-school library. Nevertheless, it is such a beautiful place. The faculty are amazing and I have learned many things that I couldn't see myself without as of now.
