I enjoy the classes and the sports events because they allowed me to interact with people outside my friend group, and it made me feel connected to the school. I also enjoy the gym classes because there are several that can be taken for a persons comfort level, whether that's lifting weights, playing sports, climbing a wall, or getting in the pool. At MCHS there are several courses to make people feel comfortable and prepared to go to college. What I would like to see change is the relationship between students and security, because while most get along with our security guards others don't like them because they enforce the rules that keep people safe. Another thing that should change is the food. The food is of decent quality, but it is the same food every week, I would like to see more variety in the cafeteria.
The school handled COVID-19 quite well! Teachers were very motivated at the start of e-learning this semester, and I feel very safe at school during hybrid learning! I'm excited for students to start learning in the new addition to West Campus.
As a student, I really like the tight-knit community at McHenry. Most teachers are really invested in each of the students personally and care for their education. They build relationships that go beyond the curriculum in order to make sure the students are happy and having fun. Something I would like to change about the school is how the staff members help prepare students for college. It often feels like the school settles with students just going to community college instead of pushing them to go to more competitive schools. Also, during the entire college research process, it is hard to find immediate support from staff members like counselors and other office staff. This is frustrating because its hard to know where to start looking.
