I am an alum as well as a parent. I like the schools and teachers for the most part. I feel my children are being taught well and are in a safe and nurturing environment. I am fine with the district's diversity. As long as my kids are safe, healthy, and prepared for college, everything else takes a back seat. I dislike the administration very much. The superintendent and her cronies rammed through an unnecessary and expensive change in the district's grade structure this past year that was opposed by the BoE and a majority of the taxpayers. It tore our community in half and turned neighbor on neighbor. Unfortunately both sides behaved badly for their own ideals, but one side was willing to sink to new lows in their desperate attempt to win. Well it worked, but our district will never be the same.

Massapequa Union Free School District makes sures all their students are prepared for what they will do after high school even if its not going to college. For those students who go to college, there are so many resources to help you find what you are looking for. The teachers will make sure they help and the administration staff wants to be apart of the experience also. All around it is a great school district where you know you will get the help you need.
My son just graduated from Massapequa HS in June. As a young child he was diagnosed with ADHD and placed into contained special education for 1st and 2nd grade. He was moved back to his zoned school in 3rd grade and received special services both in, and out of contained education. We feel that Massapequa did the absolute best for our son. From counseling, OT,PT, and Speech, to the caring individual teachers; the schools continually worked toward the main goal of giving our son every opportunity to flourish on his own. From where he started, to where he is now, a freshman in Adelphi University, is a success for him as well as the district.
Everyone has to remember that a school can only be effective if everyone is in agreement as to treatment/plan. Advocate for your child and fight for what you think is right, but also listen to your child's teacher recommendations and utilized your parent advocate. They've been there/done that. They're All there to help.
