While academics are surprisingly really great, existing as a student isn't. Bullying is rampant, like in most public schools, but many teachers don't even try to step in. A specific incident was my math teacher watching someone shout a slur at another student, and they simply brushed it off. In particular, I got verbally harassed, but was unable to report it because I had no concrete evidence. Teachers' lack of caring isn't just with bullying; one teacher I had would only talk about gas prices rather than teaching. The GSA at the time was refused announcements for their meeting time and place. Posters were ripped down, and no one cared. You would get told off if it were with any other club. There were no resources for bullying. Nothing would be done, no matter who you went to. A man in my graduating class harassed several people and got no consequences. It's hard to catch everything, but surely there's a way to handle bullying and harassment better... than when I attended, at least.
This was an excellent experience overall! The staff, administration, and students are very inclusive. The clubs are wonderful. I learned many new skills and mande many friends! The students are very well behaved and respectful. The academics are challenging and rigorous. I would recommend this schools system to anyone!
I have had many learning opportunities to where I have received the best education possible for a high school level. The teachers really care about our academic performance, and they pour into us as mentors and teachers. I feel like Maryville is made for a lot of people with money, because it is very expensive for a public school. And sometimes I feel like if you aren't smart then you struggle more with fitting in the classroom setting
