Rating 3.78 out of 5 41 reviews
Manitowoc has a lot of options for students interested in a wide range of study. They offer a variety of AP classes and art and music courses including AP chemistry, statistics, calculus, and literature. They also offer orchestra classes, chorus classes and band for students interested in the fine arts. However, the school board has made some recent changes to the system that many students and teachers disapprove of. They cut the school’s IB program, and combined high and low level orchestras. They have also made movements in the past to cut their music programs entirely, and have provided classes with inadequate teaching. The quality of Lincoln high school’s building is also questionable, as the ceiling fell in several years ago, and there are sewage links in the science wing. This calls into question the integrity of the officials who distribute funding as the school district recently spent over two million dollars on a new football facility.
Overall I think the Manitowoc Public School District does a great job educating its students for the future. They provide many educational opportunities like advanced placement classes, international baccalaureate, accelerated classes, and classes at the local university. In additional they also provide many career opportunities such as youth apprenticeship, job shadowing, and work experience. The Manitowoc Public School District does a fantastic job with STEM-related fields but I would like to see more fields in art, social studies, theater and music have more resources and opportunities provided.
The teachers were excellent, however, recently there was a huge change in the school board which caused a large number of teachers to leave the district. The new school board lacks diversity, and is non-inclusive to all students. They have issues maintaining administration, and the curriculum is inconsistent for students progressing throughout their school careers. The teachers have always been excellent and keep the students' best interest in mind.
