My experience at Mahwah High School has been great so far, the facility and resources have really helped me succeed in life and prepare me for college. However, I would like to have more options other than study like internships and hands-on experiences. While my school has such experiences there is no push to go after them rather the entire focus is elsewhere. Furthermore, my school is very competitive, for a single leadership position it doesn’t matter your calcification rather what matters is how popular you are so that your friends can vote for you. This really discouraged people to put their opinions out into the whole knowing it will be disregarded. I would also like my school to allow people with less experience to play sports so that they can learn. While the education is good there are other factors that my school can work on.
When I first moved and transferred to Mahwah High School, I knew beforehand that the school had a larger student body and better education quality than my old school Saddle Brook High School. Although I was extremely nervous as a sophomore entering the school, I am grateful to have a passionate staff to support me and various opportunities for extra help and after-school ECs . Thanks to those two aspects, I was able to break out of my shell and not only excel in a more academically challenging environment but make friends and develop close relationships with my excellent teachers.
An issue I would like to comment on is what I see as unnecessary competition. I cannot help but feel as if all of my classmates see each other as enemies. This often leads to backhanded comments, ridicule, and the loss of friendships.
Overall, while my school promotes drive and has all the resources one needs to succeed, the competition needs to be addressed so that there can be a more united student body.

Overall the experience with the Mahwah school district has been a positive experience for me and my children. There are always improvements that need to be made, such as focusing more on mental health, more AP classes and educating administration in understanding the students and their needs, but the teachers are amazing and most of the students are respectful and hardworking.
