Elementary was the best experience at this school district. However, middle school and high school became overly competitive. There were obvious advantages that the A student's received that others did not. I am grateful to have been one of those students that received advantages but I wish other students would have had those opportunities as well. For example, the top 10% students were informed of scholarships while other students were not privy to that information. Favoritism is prevalent in this district. Getting ahead in this district is also difficult. If they don't think you're ready for a more challenging class, they won't place you in it. Academically rigorous, mostly due to large workload. It is very easy to be stressed while attending this school. School spirit is high compared to other schools and sports are everything here. Being part of the valley, this school has many musically talented students in mariachi, conjunto, and band. I left Los Fresnos to attend UTRGV MSA.
This school district is very focused on academics and extracurricular involvement. It’s mission is to prepare students for their future careers, into college, or military ready. The best things about this district is the unity that it has across all schools and community involvement. Offers great CTE credit courses for knowledge and skills needed in specific career fields and offers free certifications as well, an example being an MA or EMT certification. Have met great teachers who push their students and are awesome. Faculty and staff can sometimes be average, but for the most part this district is not too bad. Diversity is poor however with a an ethnic background of mostly Hispanic because of our location. Safe schools and opportunities available for a lot of things. Sports are fun and engaging and have a lot of resources but they need better coaching and more motivation as our sports are not that great usually in terms of football or basketball. Overall would recommend.
My experience at Los Fresnos High School was an amazing time. The school provided a lot of resources to a variety of situations that a student may have. They offered after school study hall which helped students come by and have one on one sessions with teachers, had a college center that many junior and senior students went too for help with financial aid and college related materials. They held many college visits in the lecture hall and at least a college fair every year to get the idea of the "after high school what are you going to become" thought. Even though the main priority is education and college, the school also tries to make the students feel comfortable and to enjoy their time here in high school by providing rallies and other fun activities. My favorite memory of high school was when we had a homecoming rallies and the cheerleaders were having a dance off. And once they were done, everyone got off the bleachers and went to the center of the gym and started to dance.
