I liked the local involvement with the community while in attending school here. However, the academics were a little disappointing. I felt some of the courses I had to take were useless and I could've used my time more efficiently. Also, there was little to no funding for the arts programs or courses available.
I would like to see the treatment of student-athletes versus non-student athletes. The student-athletes at Knott County Central High are treated with the utmost resources, respect as well as all around better treatment than students that are not involved in sports. I would say the athletes were put on a pedestal, they do not have to do the academic work that the traditional student is required to do. Along with the opportunities the students that play sports are offered, that others are not. Besides the treatment and work being different the classes most are required to take and have students that play sports do not.
I personally did not have the best experience, I feel like a lot of students who did have good experiences are the children of teachers or someone with political pool within the county. However, if I ever needed anything most teachers are there to help.
