Everything about the Kalama school district is amazing! Everyone is very friendly and encouraging and the teachers are always doing their best to help you pass your classes and good grades. The athletics are good too. They are 2x state champs hopefully goin on a third. The coaching staff is amazing and they aren’t just your coach but your friend. Overall it’s the best high school I’ve ever been to!
I honestly can’t wait to get out of Kalama. It is such a small town that literally everybody knows everybody so the littlest thing is turned into an even greater thing. I am Filipino and I get racist comments said to me on the daily. The parents of the kids who do this don’t care, they condone it. This is honestly a terrible school but we are trying to do what we can to change that. I am responsible for the founding of the diversity board and am a part of the Student advisory council. One thing that I’ve heard many parents say is “You’ll love Kalama, but not if your kids go to Kalama.” But the thing is, we are actually a lot more decent than other schools in our area. So I would just think about the inclusion and the complete and total minority and race comments, said on the daily that are having nothing done. The teachers literally expect you to know everything and do not teach a single thing. It’s gotten so bad that I have an anxiety attack every morning.
The safe is great, and they are always looking out for you. My only criticism is that the school is so small sometimes there is little opportunities for advancement beyond the standard curriculum.
