Being able to be in Jordan school district or more specifically a student at mountain ridge high school is an 8/10 experience. They have many good teachers, that have spent countless hours teaching me and making sure I understand it. They have many resources that help my education and make school fun to go to. One thing I would have loved to change is the athletic department, I played on the girls soccer team for 3 out of my 4 years at mountain ridge. While the school really supported the football team during the fall season. The support for girls soccer felt like there was little to none support or recognition for it. So I would love to change the support for not only girls soccer but all of the girls sports at Mountain Ridge. Besides the no support for girls sports at mountain ridge. It is an excellent school, which I will graduate from with many amazing memories.
This district tries to have the best intentions of the students at heart, considering all of the growth in areas inside of the district and because of the increase of students in the district who don't speak English as a result of migrating from a Latin America country. In these regards, they try their best to accommodate, but they are caught between a rock and a hard place. However, I do have some concerns with the district in that it does not support advanced education as much as it could. There are AP and concurrent enrollment classes offered at schools, but for students who don't take those classes their learning often suffers because they are not being challenged or encouraged to challenge themselves, especially since the outbreak of COVID-19. Students are allowed to retake tests and make up absences, and for kids who refuse to try in school there are endless opportunities for them to improve and graduate, but they don't always encourage learning.
They seem to push the college route from 7th grade on. THey are pretty good about trying to keep the kids informed for application deadlines and graduation goals.
College/Career nights are sad and unattended by many schools. I think kids who aren't self motivated or not already in the advanced programs are left behind and struggle to grow and excel in school.
Awards, such as Sterling Scholar, seem to be more of a popularity contest than actual academic achievement.
We struggled with some teachers and administration being ambivalent with education and actually being helpful before COVID but now it seems worse. There are only a handful that seem to care anymore.
