Johnston is a suburban district, and the people are mostly very nice. The teachers are invested in the students' personal success, as they go out of their way to ask students how they are feeling. The facilities are great, although it is obviously apparent that the district is very sports oriented. However, there are many challenging classes for advanced students, and those teachers are great at getting to know each student. There's a very strong music program in each building. The music staff are the nicest people in each building, as they motivate you to do your very best, and provide someone you can relate to on a personal level. The administration is not really talked about. They do listen to students, though. The one negative thing I can say about Johnston is that many students think Johnston is the be-all-end-all, which causes students to be looked down upon by other schools at all competitions. Despite this, I recommend Johnston as a place to go for a quality education.

Some things that I like about the Johnston Community School District are it’s teachers, wide array of opportunities, and the level of education it provides. I’ve been going to school in the district ever since kindergarten and I feel that I will be ready for college next year. The majority of the teachers I’ve had have been really supportive and invested in the learning of their students. One of my teachers last year won teacher of the year in 2010 and I could easily see why. Johnston high school also has a lot of different clubs and activities for students to get involved in which has been helpful to me to meet new people. I’ve also been able to take AP classes in the past 2 years that have prepared me for college. On the other hand, the district could improve on the little details like figuring out the new systems of scheduling meetings with counselors and changing classes.
The school is well-funded and the facilities are nice and well-equipped. The teachers are mostly very knowledgeable and helpful, but the administration rarely seems to have their priorities straight. More focus is placed on athletics than academics and our admin rarely interacts with students unless it's to get money or promote our school. Don't expect any recognition for your achievements unless you're a varsity athlete.
