The negative connotation put on the Jackson Public School District does not help with funding and population. Therefore, JPS could be better. However, the Jackson Public School District has amazing scholars, and programs. From Broadway actors and advocates nationwide, to the only publicly funded Montessori school and an Early College High School Program (that I attend). If we bring more knowledge and awareness to the spectacular things about JPS, and receive funding and positive connotations to amplify JPS in a positive way, more students could benefit (if people are being genuine and honest).
I attended Jim Hill High School in Jackson, Ms. I am honored to have attended Jim Hill. I had the most amazing teachers who always showed that they cared about the students. I was a part of the International Baccalaureate program and graduated with a 4.2 GPA. Our teachers made sure that everyone was prepared for college. I also was a member of the band program which is the best high school band in the city. I was able to build a strong friendship with many of my band members which is long lasting until this day.
When I was in high school, I remember that we had to share books in class or no book at all. I had homework assignments that couldn't even be completed because I didn't have an assigned book to take home. Library books I needed were unavailable sometimes or there wasn't enough for the entire class. Desks were raggedy or not enough. I remember being in JROTC and they only had a small size of uniforms for xl to xxl people and shoes were unavailable as well.
I feel that they can improve the students learning by providing all the resources that is needed. Tax money is supposed to pay for these types of things yet, I didn't see any change within the four years I was there. Grants, federal government, and tax-payers provide money to fund JPS and I'm just now seeing the work being done at this particular high school.
