Rating 4 out of 5 8 reviews
Going to Islip Union Free School District for my whole life has entirely prepared me for college. Between the resourceful staff and one-on-one discussions with guidance counselors and teachers, I have never felt more ready for college. The teachers have a great understanding of each of their students as well as being able to connect with students personally. Having a healthy student-teacher relationship is dire in order for success in education, and the teachers at Islip School District are student oriented! Teachers listen to what students have to say and dispute confusion to make successful graduates each year.
The district overall is very average and decent. In terms of academics within the schools, the district offers excellent courses that benefit students, especially towards their college careers. Moreover, many teachers and administration staff display themselves as miserable and rude; it reflects on the fact that they have no regard or care for students and their future. In addition, the most disappointing downside is the lack of diversity and lack of school culture. The reflection can also be affiliated with after school clubs and activities; the lack of care for a successful outcome of the teachers in charge of these clubs and activities is incredibly disappointing. On a brighter note, I believe that the safety and protection of its students are exceedingly well done. In contrast, protection and safety from each other within the school are ironically not taken care of.
Personally, I believe that my experience at Islip High School was a good one. Most of the staff were very kind and welcoming, but there are many people who have made high school a bad experience through negative attitude and unnecessary rudeness. IHS is not very diverse and doesn't acknowledge the diversity population that it has, which over the years has increased dramatically. New policies have made it impossible for students to go anywhere without an ID card, even into the bathrooms, which is definitely unfair as a woman with personal emergencies... Although there are negatives, my high school allowed me to participate in many events that helped other people through community service and clubs.
