Two of my children attended Irvington school district for a few years. We were so dissatisfied with the district that we chose to move out of the area and search for a new home with better public schools attached. This is because education was substituted with indoctrination in Irvington. All classes start with "white oppressors" vs perpetual BIPOC victims talk. Some classes were cancelled like Spanish for the entire elementary school and funds funneled to DEI initiatives instead. Other classes, like music and literature were downgraded to unrecognizable extent: during their music class my children spent the entire year(!) banging on the floor with the sticks because it is supposedly an African instrument. During their English class the only books my children read were "black" books. Even for free choice time the children were advised to pick "diverse" books shoved into their faces. DEI reps even suggested to downgrade exact sciences like physics to the talks about race and "privilege
Irvington has been home since the first grade and I couldn't imagine a better place. It has been one of the friendliest places where everyone is willing to talk to anyone. The education has been top notch and the focus on athletics have been highlighted massively. Two things I did not enjoy is the lack of diversity as well as the lack of focus on the music programs. I hope that in the future the school points more importance on the diversity. There was limited teachers of color when I attended the school. Additionally, the focus of music and clubs were lacking. Although, I have to say that I had a great time as a student there.
Preppy, rich, white atmosphere with decent school programs. Elementary schools are better than the high school, and the teachers are more attentive at the lower levels.
