I liked going to my school! A lot of the teachers were amazing and inclusive. There are good concurrent enrollment programs and technical education programs through SWTC. Their sports programs were also amazing. The only things that I did not like were the orchestra program and the constant changing of schedules. The orchestra program is very intense which made it not fun for me. Every year throughout my high school experience there has been a new class schedule and a new way to grade and receive grades which was annoying. But all in all I still had fun and I enjoyed my high school experience.
It hasn't been very long since I have moved into Iron District. Before I live in Iron I lived in Millard and I went to Delta High School, where I did very well. However, when I moved into Iron District (beginning of junior year) I had many problems with credits transferring correctly and it took months before Iron District recognized me as one of their students. This was a very big frustration for a student simply trying to graduate. Iron district also recently started using standard based grading, which, I feel, would be more suitable for an elementary school then for a high school. Standard based grading is a very good concept but the implementation of it makes life really hard for the students. For example, last year I took a math class which I scored an A- on; however, because of standard based grading, when the test went on my grade it went on as a D-. While I feel the academics of Iron aren't the best, the extracurricular activities are amazing in Iron District!
Iron County School District is not the greatest in helping its students fulfill academic achievement. They’ve changed the grading system multiple times within the last four years causing its students to fail. However, aside from the usual safety concerns, such as school fights, ICSD does a great job at protecting the students from potentially harmful situations. They also do a great job at providing college readiness along with the tools and information needed. Overall there’s nothing wrong with ICSD in and of itself, but the administration could definitely do a million times better in listening to the complaints of teachers, students, and parents.
