I have attended schools in the district for 14 years. Not every student has had the same experience as I.
The district has expanded the range of classes and tried to prepare students for life by partnering with different businesses and providing more hands on courses. It is not perfect: not everybody will find classes for their career and you have to start over if you switch paths. But it is a start.
I am lucky to have had some amazing teachers. However, the turnover rate is higher than it should be. Teachers get shuffled around and lack of support from administration has forced some of the best to leave. This can be detrimental to students learning. I have experienced the frustration of being the guinea pig for teachers that are new/don't have experience teaching a certain course. Most of the teachers and staff are supportive and want their students to excel in and out of the classroom, but there are a few who just want to lecture and get a paycheck.

Independence school district was a very good school district, they definitely care about every single one of their students in that district. The school district has a lot of things that the kids can experience before they choose what they actually want to do in life, like the programs are wonderful and they are open to any school in the district and more. It’s a wonderful school district they are caring, dedicated, and will offer any help to anyone that needs it.
I’m in love with my school and all, but sometimes I just wish that the district will pay attention to it a little more. Other schools get more opportunities and supplies. Our school seems to be what gets shown off the least. I’m happy with my school though. I’m happy with all the experiences that I’ve had in Van Horn!
