I had went to the schools in Acadia Parish from roughly around 8th grade to 11th grade ( first semester of 11th) and the schools there were way too easy for me so I ended up moving and all I would hear was how trash Iberia Parish was and how people would get shot. Once I came to Iberia Parish, the quality in the teachers and the work I was given increased and I found the teachers there actually challenged me and were not only nice but stern. No bonus points were given which allowed every student to work harder in order to pass the class with a good grade. Iberia Parish showed me how a school is supposed to go and how students are supposed to be challenged in order for them to realize the real world is not going to be handed out freely, items come at a cost.

Hello, Jayvyn Smothers here.

I'm a student within the Iberia Parish Public Schools, and I love education. I take it very seriously, and I've always wanted to be an educator or attorney, but I do not ever see programs helping me get into that field. Yes, they have amazing teachers and they are highly supportive, but I still do not see any help with the field I want to work in, for example any student teaching programs, such as the program my friend is in, allowing him to experience being a teacher, while being a full-time student.
A lot needs to be done in this parish, we are in debt. Teachers are being paid to little. The parish doesn’t have enough money to supply things kids really need to learn, so we have to make do.
