While we are extremely privileged and well-off economically and resource-wise, our diversity is lacking and the people who work and attend school here tend to have extremely socially conservative views, which results in almost constant harassment of women, racial minorities, and members of the LGBTQ community. Some of the staff are absolutely wonderful, above and beyond, amazing people, but you can tell that some of them are only there to exhibit control over teenagers. There is also a school pigeon that lives in the bathrooms and cafeterias.
I absolutely loved the 4 years that I spent at Hudsonville High School. I was a 2 sport, 4 year varsity athlete along with a high achieving scholar. Having like-minded motivated peers around me along with teachers who were challenging yet understanding allowed me to blossom into the person I am today. Many people would critique the school saying that it had a very low diversity rating. Hudsonville High is around 90% white which isn't necessarily our fault, but it would be very beneficial to attract other races, religions, etc... so that the school is more well rounded.
Hudsonville is a growing town that does its best to accommodate for everyone. Hudsonville's population is growing rapidly and they're changing to help those who need help. There are your typical students that cause trouble and the school may sometimes not fully take care of it, but they are doing the best they can and that's all that the students can ask for!
