For me, Hoover City Schools (HCS) puts a perfect balance of attention on academics, athletics, and fine arts. In this school system, everyone is given an opportunity to prosper; we do. The best part of my experience at HCS is the support I get from all of my classmates, teachers, counselors, and principals. Despite a few negative people here and there, HCS overall is a loving community. The worst part of my experience is the discrimination people face here. If you're in a marginalized community or aren't in the "social norm", there will be negative remarks made towards you. You will feel discriminated against. From the students' perspective, we don't see anything being done to help this ongoing problem. That's where I'd like to see change.
Although I've had amazing teachers and classes in advanced, AP, and IB courses, it is difficult not acknowledge some of the issues here at Hoover City Schools. Class sizes are massive, rules have fallen apart, and teachers quit. There are so many students flooding into the Hoover area and it has put an obvious strain on teachers, which limits their ability to excel at their job.
Love my experience here. There are a lot of sports for people to get involved in and a great arts program too. The schools are large and offer a wide range of classes, as well as academies for careers more specific like firefighting, welding, health science, and more. You can take dual enrollment, AP, and more. Great place to send kids to.
