Many students are able to make their experience easier thanks to nepotism. There is no homecoming. Students are sexualized by multiple staff members. Because of the town being on a higher tax bracket, other students and teacher expect more generosity that ism't always possible. Many students take classes over the summer at a different institution and then retake the class in the high school to guarantee a high score. The school pushes AP classes as opposed to outside college level courses, a less taxing and stressful option, because APs are what make the school's rating higher.
Everyones' parents moved to Holmdel for one main reason, the education! And while by the numbers, Holmdel Township School District is near the top, my experience there was mixed. I like to consider myself a pretty smart kid, yet the sheer level of competition is unbelievable, so much so that you are underwhelmed with your own performance if it isn't at the very top. This culture of perfection shared by most yields a little hostility. The teachers, too, across my experience also were never anything special. It seems as though many kids have a teacher at least once that inspires them in a great way, yet that never happened to me in 12 years. All in all, I benefitted greatly from Holmdel School district, but certainly be wary of the environment you want to bring your child to.
The Holmdel School District provides the best all around educational opportunities in the State, which can be attributed to what is occurring in the school and outside. For instance, there is a heavy emphasis on academics by many within the community -- the instruction that occurs during the school day is supported by tutoring at home to make sure that their child can succeed. Parents also provide tremendous support for children who are interested in the arts and sports. The Holmdel community also passed a referendum to support investments in the school facilities. There cannot be many schools that are as good as Holmdel in the State, which is attributable to the community support of the District.
