I have been a part of the district since I was a Kindergartener. Back then, there were a multitude for inclusive resources for younger kids. I became a part of the after-school tutoring program PSST! at a very young age and am lucky to still be a part of it. However, as time has progressed, the amount of resources available to younger kids, and even high schoolers has limited gradually. The funds for some after-school programs diminished, with PSST being a prime example, due to lack of volunteers. When it comes to bullying and suicide awareness, there is an attempt to make the community more understanding, but that is not the case. I was only handed a paper full of hotlines and was told to "not do that." (I'm okay now). With funding, the district (specifically high school) drops millions of dollars on a gym, but the chrome books and essentials for students are lack thereof. Overall, HHS is mediocre, but there needs to be more inclusiveness and resources for the students.
This school district is willing to ignore rampant homophobia ( including hate crimes {students “jumping” another student because they are part of the LGBTQ community}), racism(slurs thrown around, discrimination based on culture and race/ethnicity) and will also hire people who are willing to ignore this. Any student involvement in stopping or lessening the impact of these hires is said to be “supported” but will also be ridiculed and simmered down to “rumors.” Most teachers and staff are great, some are not so great. Overall this school district needs to stop ignoring their wrong doings and accept their faults without acting as if nothing was wrong.
Healdsburg High School has opened up so many opportunities for me since I started attending in 2017. It has many choices of AP classes from Art to Human Geography allowing student to pursue all of their interests at a collegiate level. However, the closed campus does not allow the student body to be very diverse making this a very small school that does not do well in athletics and many other areas of extracurriculars. If we were to open the campus, the school would have access to much more information about the students and teenagers in general.
