Harlandale values community. The district offers many programs to meet the needs of vocational, technical, and academic learners. The district has great leadership and cares about the community.
I feel that at Harlandale we have a lot of unique opportunities to learn. Teachers really take the time to make sure their students are grasping the information at hand and excelling in the classroom. Personally, my experience with all my teachers has been amazing. I feel that they explain the material fully and allow my classmates and I to understand the information completely. However, I feel that since our community is mainly Hispanic and a lot of students only speak Spanish, classes tend to go at a slower pace. Teachers have to take extra time to repeat questions and explain answers because Spanish speakers need more time to process the information. This is also impacting our college readiness levels because most of us are not prepared for the fast pace learning environment of college. This problem can be fixed if we separate non-English speakers and English speakers in the classroom.
I like that the Harlandale staff care about the students and the schools are big. What I would change about Harlandale would have more school culture, but overall it’s a great district.
