Harford County attempts to provide its students with the best education and their effort is always sincere, but between budget cuts and the loss of teaching positions in the past years it is harder to manage this goal. My high school math class was larger than my college one- something that district high schools could address if they were able to hire more teachers, which their current budget leaves them unable to do. The teachers that are hired by the county range from inspiring to poor.
The largest fault with the district is its inconsistency. I finished at the top of my class and always had an abundance of resources. My brother did not have his educational needs met and was offered no help by the school district when he fell behind. This discrepancy in treatment while still under the same school system is why I must give an overall rating of average even though I have benefitted so much from the education HCPS provided me.

What I liked about the Harford County Public Schools is the involvement with the teachers, administration. When I attended Patterson Mill Middle/High school I was in a tough abusive situation with my parents and everyday the principals and guidance counselors helped me and my brother get out of that traumatizing household. The principal let us stay until 6 or 7 when things got really bad at home and helped with homework and gave us dinner. Overall, i'm just truly thankful and without their help me and my brother wouldn't be where we are today.
I am in a magnet program so my school work is sometimes heavier compared to students who are not enrolled in SMA. Overall, my teachers do their best and deliver a quality education. Even though physical violence was an issue at my school, the staff did a lot to prevent more fights. My teachers care about how I do in class but also make sure that I am doing well mentally. I joined Harford county public schools in 5th grade and I will graduate here too. I participate in sports in my county and enjoy it very much.
